Hola! I'm Norma Ibarra

Hola, thanks for stoping by!

I am a Mexican-born, recently Canadian multidisciplinary artist, photographer, and storyteller whose work focuses on documenting resilient communities, cultural movements, and diverse identities around the world. Through photography and media, I explore themes of representation, belonging, and collective resilience, with a particular focus on skateboarding, adventure, action sports, and grassroots communities.

My practice centers on creating and documenting inclusive spaces where women, queer, and BIPOC communities can see themselves represented. I am interested in how culture, identity, and public space intersect, and how communities use movement, creativity, and collective action to reshape narratives within traditionally male-dominated environments.

Working across photography, storytelling, and community organizing, I combine my background in media production and marketing with a documentary approach rooted in long-term relationships and collaboration. My work challenges conventional portrayals in sports and broadens the visual language of what “traditional media” has historically represented.

My photography has been published in magazines, online editorials, commercial campaigns, and exhibitions, and I am the author of the photobook Para ti (For You). In 2023, I was honored to receive the Lens Person of the Year award from Skate Like a Girl.

Through my work, I aim to contribute to a more inclusive visual record of contemporary culture while amplifying the voices and stories of the communities I photograph.

Say hello, Let's connect!
