8M United for Change: Marching in Mexico City on International Women’s Day
Yesterday, on International Women’s Day, I had the opportunity to march in Mexico City alongside my skateboarding friends, U Can Sakte and a powerful collective of women. We joined forces with groups like Swirl Mexico from Girl Swirl, Mujeres en Patineta, Chilangxs sobre ruedas and Chicas Roller Mexico, coming together to take over the streets with our boards, our voices, and our demands for justice.
In Mexico and across Latin America and many places around the globe, March 8th it’s a day of remembrance and resistance. It’s a day that carries the weight of all the sisters we have lost to gender-based violence, the deep-rooted machismo that permeates our society, and the daily struggles that women continue to face. The atmosphere in the march was heavy yet electrifying—thousands of women moving as one, chanting, holding banners, painting the streets with messages of resistance, and demanding the change we desperately need.
For me, this wasn’t just another event to photograph—it was about being present, standing in solidarity, and using my voice. Of course, I couldn’t resist capturing some moments, but my priority was to march with my community, to scream for justice, and to demand a better, safer world for all women.
The unity we experienced was overwhelming. Skateboarders, roller skaters, artists, activists, mothers, daughters, and friends—we were all there for the same reason: to fight for a world where women can live without fear. Seeing so many strong, determined individuals sharing the same struggle reminded me that change is not only necessary but possible.
I’m sharing these photos not just as a documentation of the day but as a reminder that our fight continues beyond March 8th. We must keep pushing forward, supporting one another, and making noise until real change happens.
United, we are stronger. United, we can create change.
Ayer en el Día Internacional de la Mujer, tuve la oportunidad de marchar por primera vex en la Ciudad de México junto a mis amigas skaters y un poderoso colectivo de mujeres. El team de U Can Skate nos unimos a otros grupos incluyendo Swirl México de Girl Swirl, Mujeres en Patineta, Chilangxs sobre ruedas así como a integrantes de la comunidad roller Chicas Roller Mexico, tomando las calles con nuestras tablas, nuestras voces y nuestras exigencias de justicia.
En México y en toda América Latina y otras partes del mundo, el 8 de marzo es un día de memoria y resistencia. Es un día que lleva el peso de todas las hermanas que hemos perdido a causa de la violencia de género, el machismo arraigado en nuestra sociedad y las luchas diarias que las mujeres seguimos enfrentando. La atmósfera en la marcha era intensa y electrizante: miles de mujeres avanzando como una sola, coreando, sosteniendo pancartas, pintando las calles con mensajes de resistencia y exigiendo el cambio que tanto necesitamos.
Para mí, este no fue solo otro evento para fotografiar, sino un momento para estar presente, solidarizarme y alzar la voz. Por supuesto, no pude resistir capturar algunos momentos, pero mi prioridad era marchar con mi comunidad, gritar por justicia y exigir un mundo mejor y más seguro para todas las mujeres.
La unidad que experimentamos fue poderosa. Skaters, patinadoras, artistas, activistas, madres, hijas y amigas—todas estábamos allí por la misma razón: luchar por un mundo donde las mujeres puedan vivir sin miedo. Ver a tantas personas fuertes y determinadas compartiendo la misma lucha me recordó que el cambio no solo es necesario, sino posible.
Comparto estas fotos no solo como un registro del día, sino como un recordatorio de que nuestra lucha continúa más allá del 8 de marzo. Debemos seguir avanzando, apoyándonos unas a otras y haciendo ruido hasta que el cambio sea una realidad.
Unidas somos más fuertes. Unidas podemos crear el cambio.
