Celebrating Go Skateboarding Day in Mexico City with Vans Mexico
This June, I had the exciting opportunity to return to Mexico City for the Go Skateboarding Day celebrations with House of Van Mexico. It was an incredible experience filled with meaningful moments, as I got to participate in several special events, each one a reminder of how skateboarding brings people together.
Dejando Huella Photo Gallery & Talk
I had the honor of hosting a talk and showcasing my photo gallery Dejando Huella ("Leaving a Mark"). This exhibition is close to my heart as it celebrates women who have made a lasting impact in the skateboarding world. Through photos I’ve captured over the years, I shared the stories of these remarkable skaters with photos captured in places like the USA, Indonesia, India, Mexico, and Spain. Seeing these photos on display and sharing them with others was a powerful reminder of how far we’ve come.
Skateboarding Photography Workshop
I also led a photography workshop where I taught participants the essentials of skateboarding photography. It was amazing to see so many eager to learn about capturing the essence of the sport. We discussed tips for getting started, the importance of timing, and how to create compelling narratives through photos.
Skateboarding with the Otomí Community
One of the highlights of the celebration was providing a skateboarding workshop for the Otomí Indigenous Community in collaboration with @UCANSKATE. Vans graciously opened up their skatepark and hosted this special event for the girls, allowing them to skateboard and enjoy the space privately. It was such a joy to see their excitement and confidence as they tried out new tricks and explored the skatepark.
Being back home in Mexico and connecting with my community in such meaningful ways made this experience truly unforgettable. Skateboarding has a way of creating connections that transcend borders, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to share in the joy and passion that it brings.
Here are some photos from the celebrations. Thanks Vans for having me!
